The Town
• Small town in California where not much of anything interestig happens.
• Our focus is within the well-to-do side of town~ where bored rich kids throw parties to keep themselves entertained.
• The town is very peaceful and pretty and seems perfect at first glance, but there are a lot of mysterious disappearances and deaths, most of which seem to occur in the woods and near Neptune Lake.
• It's a very well kept secret that the woods are home to various creatures of myth and lore, and while some of them are pretty chill, the more malevolent ones prey on stupid humans. Halloween night is an especially good night for hunting and feeding for those particular creatures.
• Ashvale has a bit of a reputation with your occult studiers and more irritatingly to locals, the ghost hunting crowd. Most recently, about 2 weeks before Halloween 2021, a team that goes by the name of Ghost Dusters came to town, trying to catch sight of whatever might live out by the lake. (Think: Supernatural's "Ghost Facers" for how seriously you might be able to take these guys)
The locals are used to it and most roll their eyes, though some tend to take the opportunity to mess with the ghost hunter crews when they roll through town.

Things to do
• Mostly locally-owned shops. • Several schools, including public and private as well as a community college.
° Cinemaniacs theater for all the movie buffs out there.
• Ashvale Mall has plenty of stores for a wardrobe update.
• Neptune Lake is one of Ashvale's biggest attractions.
• Mercury Park
• Williams Remedies, an old apothecary stands in the square downtown, preserved as a historical marker– yes, the Williams kids are aware of it's existence, and yes, they're tired of you asking questions about it, honestly.
• A smattering of locally-owned restaurants as well as a few fast food chains.
Ashvale Community College
Even if students often transfer to another university in one of the bigger cities or even in a another state, pretty much everyone in Ashvale starts here. It's the first step of the rest of the lives of those freshly graduated from high school, but the school often reminds the town's residents that their doors are always there for anyone who might decide they want to dip a toe back into school again later in life as well. No matter what stage of life you're in, the staff at ACC will readily welcome you.
Witches
• Witches are humans born with the power to affect change by magical means.
• Though not immortal, all witches have longer than typical human lifespans; most witches don't live more than 3-5 centuries.
• Despite the longer lifespan, they are still susceptible to all human illnesses/ailments, and injury/death.
• A witch's emotional state (including self-doubt/disbelief in oneself/one's own abilities or mental health complications or medications) can greatly affect their success or even cut off access to their magic altogether.

Basics
All witches are capable of the following:
• Spellcasting: What it says on the tin; gather the necessary ingredients and perform rituals/incantation-based spells. These vary in strength and action, and the bigger the spell, the harsher the toll it takes on the caster; this also includes curses (long-term) and hexes (short-lived), which are spells with ill intent.
• Channeling: The ability to pull power from the very lifeforce of other living or supernatural beings or magic-infused items to add to their own innate power. Prolonged channeling could be detrimental to a person being used as a channel.
It could potentially cause weakness, headaches, nosebleeds, unconsciousness, and in exceptionally rare and intense cases, even death; immortal beings used as channels cannot die this way, however.
• Scrying: Use of crystals or personal objects along with a map to locate a target. There is no distance requirement between the witch and the target for the spell to work, but scrying never works if the target is in any way magically hidden.
• Telekinesis: Movement of objects/people with the mind (the bigger the target, the more mental exhaustion there is as a result).
• Pain Infliction: Creates a sensory overload of pain in the target. This takes almost no mental or magical energy for a skilled witch.

- ➥ Infusion: The ability to imbue supernatural properties into an item either temporarily or permanently (i.e. enchanted objects). Only the witch that created the spell on the item can remove the magic, or the (temporary or permanent) death of that witch will cancel the effects.
➥ Warding: The ability to place protection wards on people or places to shield them from harm.

Williams Famiily Specialties
The Williams family line are very powerful witches, powered through their own innate magical ability.Though it is not guaranteed that they receive any of these abilities, members of the Williams bloodline have varying penchants for a variety of additional powers not typical of all witches.
Typically, if one of these abilities is going to manifest, it does by age 12; however, though rare, it is not completely unheard of for 'late bloomers' to exist.
• Elemental Control: Manipulation of air, earth, fire, and water. Typically there is an affinity of one element over the other for the witches that possess this ability.
• Premonition: The ability to perceive future events before they happen. This ability happens at random, the visions are always vague, and there is no way to control it at all. This power tends to manifest in **women** in the Williams family.
• Teleportation: The ability to instantly relocate oneself without occupying the space between two points. It looks like a shimmer across the body.
• Phasing: The ability to move through solid objects. May also be able to manipulate the tangibility of objects at will as well.
• Mind Manipulation: The ability to control the mind of another person; this could be used to alter or erase memories or control another person's actions against their will.
- ➥ None of the current generation Williams bloodline has this power at this time.
Sirens
• Though no one who is aware of their existence knows how long they have occupied Neptune Lake, Sirens have been a significant part of the mystery surrounding Ashvale, California. What draws so many enthusiastic “ghost hunters” to town, irritating and disturbing the locals.
• Before Halloween of 2021, they had been the cause of most of the mysterious disappearances and deaths in the woods of the idyllic town. They have an understanding with the faeries that also occupy the woods surrounding the lake, sharing their prey when the occasion calls for it. Halloween Night is especially good for hunting, as many ignorant humans will stumble through to party until dawn.
• While traditionally half-human and half-bird in Greek mythology, these sirens are different. The first notable difference is that gender doesn’t matter. They are terrifying, otherworldly creatures whose song will lure people to their deaths. They can disguise themselves to look human for a time – inhumanly beautiful – before their form changes. And while they are still undoubtedly beautiful in their true forms, they look much more deadly and monstrous. Sirens typically have blue or green skin, dagger-like fangs and webbed fingers that end in sharp claws.
• Another thing of note is that their eyes glow in the dark or underwater, their movement is unlike that of a human’s and much faster. Their strength is greater than a human’s as well, able to kill their victims with little to no difficulty. A siren may have scales anywhere on their body, but they aren’t covered by them entirely. These sirens do not possess fish tails like those of the merfolk. They walk on two feet and a pair of legs just like humans, making it easier for them to leave their lake.
• Their song is just as deadly as their teeth and claws, if not more: captivating voices capable of drawing people to their deaths, luring them into complacency so that they will be easier prey. Once under the control of a siren’s song, a human has no choice but to follow them – it doesn't matter where, for they go to their death, either way. But much like traditional mythology, the song doesn’t always have to be for the purpose of enamoring the prey to them. A siren’s song will be enticing to the victim no matter what.
• If they wish, Sirens also have the ability to turn a human after drowning them. But it must be the human’s choice, or they will truly die.
• Weaknesses include susceptiblity to fire and sunlight. Any extreme heat can and will kill them, so they avoid it whenever they are able to. Cora Pearce was able to kill the ones inhabiting Neptune Lake with an iron dagger.
